When Sheriff Jake sees a man at the safe and then finds the payroll gone, he trails him. Just as he is about to arrest him, the man saves his life. Still suspicious, he joins up with the man and later they learn that Melgrove, the towns leading citizen, is trying to take over the area's ranches by having his gang stop all incoming supply wagons. With the ranchers about to sell to Melgrove, the two newcomers say they will bring in provisions.

They had successfully wrestled this totem from the natives and were heading back to Livingston when they were attacked by Raglan, a thug sent to steal the Green Goddess and its formula for Hiram Powers' personal use, and the Goddess is seized from them. On the trail of Raglan, they had to deal with his henchmen and also a party of the primitives, sent by the High Priest to retrieve the Goddess. Cornelia Bullock, a spoiled socialite offers a vagrant, Godfrey Smith, five dollars to be her "forgotten man" for a scavenger hunt during the Great Depression. Godfrey is seriously angry and causes her to fall on a pile of ashes. Cornelia leaves in a fury -- much to the joy of her younger sister Irene who is very kind. At the Waldorf-Ritz Hotel Godfrey is proofen to be as a „forgotten man", but he also addresses the rich. This makes Irene apologetic and therefore, she offers him a job as a butler.

Tommy, a family guest is curious to know what one of the elite "Parkes of Boston" is doing as a butler. Godfrey explains that a love affair had left him broken, but the optimistic attitude of the men living at the dump changed his spirit.

Different schemes develop in the Bullock household between the two daughters, the finanical problems of the father and Godfrey. All this changes Godfrey's situation -- but he never forgets his time at the dump and gives back.

Struggling songwriter Judy Walker talks her way into the apartment of a famous composer, and finds that he's on vacation. Homeless and without any money, she decides to stay at his place until his return, making use of all his belongings, and spreading the word that she is the composer's collaborator. She writes a song, wtih the composer listed as the co-writer, which becomes a big radio hit. The famous composer returns, and screwball comedy ensues.

Lem becomes a wanderer, then an alcoholic. Finally a chance to play Othello draws him back to Harlem. Is it too late for Ned? Or too soon to suit Rough Jackson's mobsters? Melodramatic events lead to an unusual conclusion.
