Pete Murphy’s life has changed since his separation from his wife, Sarah. He has a new fiancée, a new home in the tropics, and plans to start a new family. However, before any of this can happen, Pete must first finalise his divorce.
When he asks Sarah to sign the papers that will put an end to their marriage, she agrees, but on one condition—Pete must first reconcile with his two daughters. In an attempt to patch things up and move on with his life, Pete returns home during the holidays while his fiancée heads to the Caribbean. His wife is dating his former best friend, and his youngest daughter is pregnant--she’s a surrogate mother for her infertile sister’s baby.
Porter. 12 minutes long, it is considered a milestone in film making, expanding on Porter's previous work Life of an American Fireman. The film used a number of innovative techniques including composite editing, camera movement and on location shooting. It is a common misconception that the film contains cross cutting, although the technique does not appear in the film. Some prints were also hand colored in certain scenes.

The film was directed and photographed by Edwin S. Porter, a former Edison Studios cameraman. Actors in the movie included Alfred C. Abadie, Broncho Billy Anderson and Justus D. Barnes, although there were no credits. Though a Western, it was filmed in Milltown, New Jersey. The film has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

-~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
Please watch: "An American in Berlin? - Oliver Hardy ~ with Philip Hutchinson"
-~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Donate for our restoration project of historic material: http://www.leetchi.com/c/pool-von-interpathe-16620838

Meet John Doe (1941)

nfuriated at being told to write one final column after being laid off from her newspaper job, Ann Mitchell (Barbara Stanwyck) prints a letter from a fictional unemployed "John Doe" threatening suicide on Christmas Eve in protest of society's ills. When the note causes a sensation and the paper's competition suspects a fraud and starts to investigate, the newspaper editor rehires Mitchell who comes up with a scheme of hiding the fictional nature of "John Doe" while exploiting the sensation caused by the fake letter to boost the newspaper's sales, for which she demands a bonus equal to 8 months' pay. After reviewing a number of derelicts who have shown up at the paper claiming to have penned the original suicide letter, Mitchell and editor Henry Connell (James Gleason) hire John Willoughby (Gary Cooper), a former baseball player and tramp who is in need of money to repair his injured arm, to play John Doe. Mitchell now starts to pen an article series in Doe's name, elaborating on the letter's ideas of society's disregard of people in need.
Willoughby gets $50, a new suit of clothes, and a plush hotel suite with his tramp friend (Walter Brennan), who launches into an extended diatribe against "the heelots", lots of heels who incessantly focus on getting money from others. Willoughby is hired to give radio speeches, guided by Mitchell who is promised $100 a week to write his speeches, paid by the newspaper's publisher, D.B. Norton (Edward Arnold). Willoughby turns down a $5,000 bribe to admit the whole thing was a publicity stunt, gives Mitchell's speech, and dashes off to the countryside with "The Colonel". They ride the rails, playing the harmonica and ocarina until they show up in Millsville, where John Doe is recognized at a diner. He's brought to City Hall, where he's met by Hanson, who gives a five-minute monologue about how he was inspired to start a local John Doe club.
The John Doe philosophy spreads across the country, developing into a broad grassroots movement whose simple slogan is, "Be a better neighbor". Far from being an altruistic philanthropist, however, Norton plans to channel the support for Doe into support for his own national political ambitions. As a culmination of this plan, Norton has instructed Mitchell to write a speech for Willoughby in which he announces the foundation of a new political party and endorses Norton as its presidential candidate.
When Willoughby, who has come to believe in the John Doe philosophy himself, realizes that he is being used, he tries to expose the plot, but is first stymied in his attempts to talk his own mind to a nationwide radio audience at the rally instead of reading the prepared speech, and then exposed as a fake by Norton, who claims to have been deceived, like everyone else, by the staff of the newspaper. Frustrated by his failure, Willoughby intends to commit suicide by jumping from the roof of the City Hall on Christmas Eve, as indicated in the original John Doe letter. Only the intervention of Mitchell and followers of the John Doe clubs persuades him to renege on his threat to kill himself. At this point in the movie, a reference to Jesus Christ is made, that a historical "John Doe" has already died for the sake of humanity. The film ends with Connell turning to Norton and saying, "There you are, Norton! The people! Try and lick that!"
In a slum, Lila Leid, the wife of lawyer Leid is murdered, Egon, secretary of one of Leid's clients is arrested. He was with her, and had her necklace, because he needed some money for his own stock exchange deals. The same deal brings poverty to ex-government official Rumfort, his daughter Greta, who also has lost her job, tries to get some money to get food. She rents a room of the flat she, her young sister and her father are living in to an American Red Cross official, who pays $60 rent, but the money is taken by some of her father's creditors. But their neighbour, shop owner Mrs Greifer knows how to "help", she and Mrs. Merkel are running a nightclub with a brothel...

The Naked Kiss (1964)

Kelly (Towers) is a prostitute who shows up in the small town of Grantville, just one more burg in a long string of quick stops on the run after being chased out of the big city by her former pimp. She engages in a quick tryst with local police chief Griff (Eisley), who then tells her to stay out of his town and refers her to a cat-house just across the state line.
Instead, she decides to give up her illicit lifestyle, becoming a nurse at a hospital for handicapped children. Griff doesn't trust reformed prostitutes, however, and continues trying to run her out of town.
Kelly falls in love with J.L. Grant (Dante), the wealthy scion of the town's founding family, an urbane sophisticate, and Griff's best friend. After a dream-like courtship where even Kelly's admission of her past can't deter Grant, the two decide to marry. It is only after Kelly is able to finally convince Griff that she truly loves Grant and has given up prostitution for good that he agrees to be their best man.
Shortly before the wedding, Kelly arrives at Grant's mansion, only to find him on the verge of molesting a small girl. As he grinningly tries to persuade her to marry him, arguing that she too is a deviant, the only one who can understand him, and that he loves her, Kelly strikes him with a phone receiver, killing him instantly. Jailed, and under heavy interrogation from Griff, she must convince him and the town that she is telling the truth about Grant's death.
As Kelly tries to exonerate herself, one disappointment follows another, and enemies old and new parade through the jailhouse to defame her. In despair, she is at last able to find Grant's victim and prove her innocence.

Cornelia Bullock, a spoiled socialite offers a vagrant, Godfrey Smith, five dollars to be her "forgotten man" for a scavenger hunt during the Great Depression. Godfrey is seriously angry and causes her to fall on a pile of ashes. Cornelia leaves in a fury -- much to the joy of her younger sister Irene who is very kind. At the Waldorf-Ritz Hotel Godfrey is proofen to be as a „forgotten man", but he also addresses the rich. This makes Irene apologetic and therefore, she offers him a job as a butler.

Tommy, a family guest is curious to know what one of the elite "Parkes of Boston" is doing as a butler. Godfrey explains that a love affair had left him broken, but the optimistic attitude of the men living at the dump changed his spirit.

Different schemes develop in the Bullock household between the two daughters, the finanical problems of the father and Godfrey. All this changes Godfrey's situation -- but he never forgets his time at the dump and gives back.

On June 25, 2009 the world was struck with the tragic & untimely death of the biggest pop icon of our time. His death left so many questions unanswered. Did he simply die a natural death, or was he in fact murdered? What secrets were buried with the legend? This documentary reveals a side of Michael Jackson unkknown to the public. Few fans had any knowledge that Jackson was investigated by STASI (the secret service of Eastern Germany) for political motives that will come to light in this riveting documentary. Evidence that he was very active in political circles is encapsulated here by public photos and footage with former US presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Princess Diana, the connection Michael Jackson had to the secret service and top political figures, and how he was much more than "The King of Pop" in those circles. This film delves deep into the man that was Jackson and uncovers the layers of truths behind the mysteries that the public was previously shielded from. Michael Jackson was the true "King of Pop". Yet following his tragic death, many questions remain unanswered. This eye opening film, "The Secrets of a Legend" describes Jackson's life behind the scenes in great detail presenting a side of the pop icon the public has never known. Michael Jackson is a true legend. However, like all music icons that died tragically before him, he had many secrets. Only after death can these secrets be revealed.
