Description

It's William Shatner's first ever film role!
Well, he's only playing "a crook" for a few minutes, but hey.
Well, since it's not really about him, let's talk about the movie instead.
An early example of Quebec cinema, this somewhat amusing film follows Roche LaRousse (Paul Colbert), a social worker of a boy's club, and his attempts to marry "The Girl" (Mary Lou Hennessy) and get a big cheque from her father (Eric Workman) to buy/develop a camp for his wards. Unfortunately, the butler (Peter Sturgess) is in love with The Girl, and will even try to frame LaRousse for murder if it means getting rid of him.
I would go into more detail, but honestly the plot of the film is a little hard to follow. It seems awkwardly cut in places, and this being the only copy we have at 57 minutes, whilst IMDB gives a 74 minute run time, perhaps that explains why.
Nonetheless, whilst the film isn't really all that bad, and Sturgess's performance is actually very creepy at times, and since Quebec cinema was literally just getting started, it's worth a watch. Plus... it has the Shatner in it! I'm sold.
